Arepas

2 cups of sifted flour
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup of shortening
1 teaspoon of powdered anise
3 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Pinch of Salt



Sift flour and salt 3 times into a large bowl. Add the egg yolk, shortening, anise and sugar. Mix well. Pat into little pancakes about 1/2 inch thick and 2 inches in diameter. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon which have been mixed together. Bake in a slow oven, 325ºF. until golden brown.
