Chocolate Syrup

1 cup of powdered cocoa
two 1 ounce squares of bitter chocolate
1 1/2 cups of brown sugar, packed
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 cups of boiling water
1 egg
4 tablespoons of butter
2 teaspoons of vanilla

Combine the cocoa, chocolate, sugar, salt, and water in saucepan. Stir and heat until sugar and chocolate are dissolved. Boil 3 minutes. Remove from heat and beat vigorously with rotary egg beater. Beat egg into mixture. Return to heat. Add butter , and beat again with rotary beater. Let simmer over lowered heat 10 minutes. Add vanilla. Let cool. Pour into quart jar and store in refrigerator for use in various chocolate drinks and as a dessert sauce. Makes about 1 quart of syrup.
