Washboard Cookies

1 cup of sugar
1 cup of brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup of shortening
2 eggs, well beaten
3 1/4 cup of flour, sifted
2 teaspoons of baking soda
2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon of lemon extract
1 cup of coconut
1 cup of raisins
1/2 cup of chopped nuts

Cream together sugars and shortening until smooth. Add eggs and mix well. Sift together flour, soda, and cream of tartar. Set aside a small part in which to dredge the raisins, nuts and coconut. Add the dry ingredients to batter and mix. Add flavorings, raisins, nuts and coconut. Mix well. Shape dough into small balls. Place on a greased cookie sheet and press flat with a fork. Bake in a 350º:F. oven for about 12 minutes.
