4 cups of flour 1/2 cup of shortening 1 cup of sugar 1 cup of molasses (dark) 1 1/2 cup of hot water 1 teaspoon of baking soda |

Mix all dry ingredients together. Put approximately 1/4 cup aside. Add other ingredients to dry mix. Bake in ready made pie shell or make fresh. Put all ingredients in pie shell. (For moist pie put 1/4 cup molasses on bottom of pie shell before adding ingredients.) Sprinkle 1/4 cup dry mix on top. Bake at 350-375ºF. until sides show cracking, top will lift. |
