Moravian Sugar Cake
3/4 cup of butter or shortening mixed
1 cup of white sugar
2 eggs
1 cup of mashed potatoes
1 cup of potato water
2 teaspoons of salt
1 yeast cake or pkg. of dry yeast
6 to 8 cups of flour, (to make soft dough)
1/4 cup of warm water
Cream
Brown sugar
Cinnamon
Cream shortening and sugar, beat in eggs. Add mashed potatoes, potato water,
salt, and yeast softened in 1/4 cup of warm water. Add flout to make a soft
dough. Let rise 2 to 3 hours. Pat out on greased pans and let rise again.
Punch holes over top and fill with bits of butter and cover with brown sugar
and cinnamon. Drop cream lightly over top. Bake in 375ºF.
oven for 20 minutes or until brown.
