Candy Cane Cookies
1 cup of shortening
1 cup of sifted 10 sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract
2 1/2 cups of flour
1/2 teaspoon of red food coloring
1/2 cup of crushed peppermint candy
1/2 cup of sugar
Preheat oven to 375ºF. Mix first 5 ingredients. Sift flour and add salt,
stir into shortening mixture. Divide dough in half and add coloring to
half. Using 1 teaspoon of dough from each color, roll 2 - 4" strips.
Place strips side by side and press tightly together and twist like
rope. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Curve top to form cane. Bake for
9 minutes until lightly browned. Makes 4 dozen canes. |
