Grandma's Chocolate Cake
2 cups of all purpose flour
2 cups of sugar
1/4 cup of cocoa
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 cup of butter or margarine
1 cup of water
1 teaspoon of baking soda
2 large eggs
1/2 cup of buttermilk
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
one 14 ounce package of miniature chocolate covered peppermint patties,
unwrapped
Chocolate frosting
Combine the first 4 ingredients, and set aside.
Combine butter and water in large saucepan, bring to a boil
Remove from heat; stir in soda. Add flour mixture, stirring well.
Stir in eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla.
Spoon into a greased and floured 13x9x2 inch pan.
Bake at 350ºF. for 30 minutes. Top with candy; bake 2 additional minutes.
Gently spread melted candy over warm cake. Spread Chocolate Frosting over
top. Cut into squares. 15 servings
Chocolate Frosting
1/2 cup of butter or margarine
1/3 cup of milk
one 16 ounce package powdered sugar, sifted
1/4 cup of cocoa
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Combine butter and milk in large saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil, and
remove from heat.
Combine powdered sugar and cocoa; add to butter mixture. Add vanilla,
stirring until smooth. 2 cups |
