Pizza Burgers with Trimmings
Burgers:
1 pound of extra-lean ground round beef
1/4 cup of minced onions
1/4 cup of soft bread crumbs
2 tablespoons of ketchup
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper
1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
4 whole-wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted
1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon of mayonnaise
4 slices of tomato
Preheat the broiler. Coat the broiler pan with no-stick spray. In a
medium bowl, combine the beef, onions, bread crumbs, ketchup, garlic,
oregano, basil, and pepper. Mix well. Form into 4 patties. Place the
patties on the broiler pan. Broil 4 inches from the heat for 8 minutes.
Turn and broil for 5 minutes, or until the beef is no longer pink in the
center. Top the burgers with the mozzarella. Broil for 1 minute, or
until the cheese melts. Spread the hamburger buns with the mustard and
mayonnaise. Place the burgers on the buns. Top with the tomatoes. Serves
