Layered Meat Loaf with Mushroom Sauce

6  ounces of herb seasoned stuffing mix
1 1/2 pounds of lean ground beef
1/2 pound of bulk pork sausage with sage
1 egg, beaten
2 slices of bread, crumbled
1/4 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of garlic salt
2 teaspoons of minced onion
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
1 can of mushroom soup
1/4 cup of water




Prepare the stuffing mix, using 1 1/2 cups of water and 3 tablespoons of melted butter. Mix well and fluff lightly. Set aside. Combine the remaining ingredients except soup and water, in a bowl, mix well. Spread half the meat mixture in bottom of a loaf pan. Spread stuffing over, patting it down evenly. Pat remaining meat mixture over stuffing. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Bake loaf for 45 minutes or until top is lightly browned. Combine mushroom soup with water and pour over meat loaf. Continue baking for 30 minutes longer.
