Spicy Barbecued Cashews

1/4 cup of corn syrup
2 tablespoons  of water
2 teaspoons of salt, coarse
2 teaspoons of cumin, ground
1 teaspoon of curry powder
1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1 pound of cashews, raw, unsalted

"For a not-so-spicy version, use half the amount of curry powder and cayenne, Raw, unsalted cashews are available at bulk and health food stores. I like to give these away in 1/2 cup amounts in little plastic bags tied with attractive ribbons. Be sure to label them "spicy"." In medium saucepan, combine corn syrup with water and spices. Bring to a boil. Stir in the nuts. Spread on cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil and bake 1 hour at 275ºF.  Stir every 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool 20 minutes. MAKES: ABOUT 3 CUPS
